POLICE in Tadcaster are hunting a man who tried to steal cable from a local business.
Officers have been making extensive enquires to trace the suspect and are now urging the public to help the investigation.
The man was disturbed by workers at Sarah Brownridge Whole Foods on Catterton Lane, Islington, after spotting him on the firm’s CCTV cameras acting suspiciously at the rear of the site at around 3.45pm on 10 October 2011.
The suspect, who left empty-handed, was driving a silver Ford Transit van.
He is described as white, aged in his late 30s, around 5ft 10in tall with a slim build and light brown hair. He has crooked, gapped teeth and rough skin and was wearing blue denim jeans and a dark jacket.
Police are appealing to anyone who can help the investigation to come forward.
PC Neil Soulby, of Tadcaster police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who can help us identify the suspect to contact the police or Crimestoppers with information.
“If you recognise the man from the description provided, or saw any suspicious activity in the area at the time of the incident please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
