LATEST: Monk Fryston death ‘not suspicious’

Police investigating the body of woman found in a field near Monk Fryston now believe there are no suspicious circumstances, it has been revealed.

Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death, a police spokesman has confirmed.

However the force will continue to investigate the circumstances of her death and prepare a report for HM Coroner, she added.

Officers now believe the deceased is a 51-year-old local woman, although they are not yet in a position to release her identity.

North Yorkshire Police were first called to the scene by a member of the public at 3.20pm on Saturday, June 1 following the discovery of a body in a field next to the A63 at Monk Fryston near the railway line.

The A63 was closed for more than 24 hours while officers examined the scene, and reopened at 9.20pm on Sunday, June 2.

Superintendent Amanda Oliver, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the police activity was ongoing over the weekend.”
