Election countdown for North Yorkshire

THE countdown to North Yorkshire’s county council elections has begun ahead of polling day on May 2.

All 72 county council seats will be contested.

County councillors will serve on the full authority and also be members of the area committee for their district.

Official notice of the election was given on Tuesday.

North Yorkshire County Council is currently controlled by the Conservatives, who have 46 seats.

Voters must have been be registered by yesterday, April 17, with postal vote applications closing at 5pm that day and proxy vote applications needing to be received by 5pm on April 24.

Votes will be counted and results announced on May 3.

Polling station details will be published in due course.

Candidates include

Sherburn-in-Elmet: Fell, James Thomas UKIP party candidate; Jordan, Mike Conservative party candidate; Packham, Bob Labour party candidate.

Tadcaster: Cobb, Steve Labour party candidate; Kitchin, Garry Mervyn Green party candidate; Metcalfe, Chris Conservative party candidate.

Cawood and Saxton: Corrigan, Rosie Labour party candidate; Lee, Andrew Conservative party candidate.

Pannal and Lower Wharfedale: Darlington, Robert Ashley Labour party candidate; Trotter, Cliff Conservative party candidate; Upex, John Randle UKIP party candidate; Wilson, Richard Miles Green party candidate.

Ainsty: Fisher, John Labour party candidate; Frendt, Robert Bernard UKIP party candidate; Savage, John Liberal party candidate; Wilson, Famida Annissa Conservative party candidate.
