Deli embraces healthy eating

A Wetherby food company which opened a flagship store in the town is encouraging people to eat healthily.

The family-owned Filmore and Union, which opened their branch on Market Place in 2012, is encouraging people to embrace good food after the launch of its new evening menu.

“Wetherby is the home of our offices and development kitchen,” said Will Pugh, director and executive chef.

“So we’ve been keen to open a shop here for quite some time, and we’ve just been waiting for the right spot.

“We were absolutely over the moon when the Market Place site became available - it’s central, it has a bit of a deli history and it’s just round the corner from our head office and test kitchen.

“We’re now really putting our hearts into making this our flagship store.”

And the new Wetherby branch, which employs 25 people, is now looking to help young people

The group is hoping to recruit apprentices to join the business, which also has branches in Harrogate and York.

Filmore & Union, a cafe-delicatessen company, is headquartered in Gas House Lane, just off High Street, Wetherby .

It’s also the site of its development kitchen, which employs ten people and develops all the baked goods for the company’s four branches.

Filmore and Union opened its first branch in early 2012, when its founders - executive chef Will Pugh and his auntie, who previously owned Wellness Clinics locally - spotted a gap in the market for the kind of food they felt passionate about.

This is food that’s extremely healthy, but tastes great enough for customers to notice.

The development kitchen and head office site, where Will researches and creates recipes with his fellow chefs, opened in October 2011
