A SMELL of cannabis when police came looking for one of Nathan Clifford’s Miller’s neighbours led to a court appearance for him last week.
Harrogate magistrates heard how when 45-year-old Miller opened the door of his flat in Brandon Lodge, Lancaster Park Road, Harrogate, officers could smell the illicit drug.
Prosecutor Kathryn Reeve said when he was asked if he had been smoking cannabis Miller replied in the affirmative and took officers into his kitchen where he produced a small amount of resin. He said he had bought the drug in Leeds for about £30.
When Miller, who was not legally represented, pleaded guilty to possession of a class B drug he told presiding magistrate Eric Fell police had knocked on his door searching for a man who lived next door and he ‘‘let them in to have a look.’’
Ordering a fine of £35 with £50 costs and a £15 victim surcharge, Mr Fell told Miller it had been unfortunate the police had smelled cannabis.
On order was signed for destruction of the seized resin.
