Wetherby Racecourse’s last meeting of the season takes place on Tuesday July 21 as the flag comes down on the first flat racing at the popular track.
And officials at the course are opening the event to the local community.
Chief Executive, Jonjo Sanderson said: “Our season usually finishes at the end of May, but we were fortunate to be allocated some additional flat fixtures this year and so our racing season has been extended through June and into July.
“The June weather we experienced was more akin to what we are used to when we race in the autumn, so we are really hoping that the season finale in July may finally see us racing on a warm, sunny, summer evening.”
The Racecourse will have held four flat fixtures this year but due to the way racing fixtures are allocated, it may be a few years yet before any permanent flat fixtures are written into Wetherby’s racing programme.
The race fixture on Tuesday July 21 is Wetherby’s Community Race Evening and residents and businesses within local postcode areas, LS22, LS23 & YO26 7**, can apply for a Community Card that will entitle them to free Paddock Enclosure admission on the night.
Resident applications receive two cards per address and business applications receive four cards.
