Call to former students to strike up for retiring head

Former student members of Tadcaster Grammar School Concert Band are being invited to attend a special farewell evening to celebrate the retirement of the Headteacher Geoff Mitchell.

Mr Mitchell will retire from Tadcaster Grammar School after 16 years and Samantha Buckley, Head of Visual and Performing Arts, thought it would be a fitting tribute to invite all past members of the Concert Band to perform in the final two numbers of the evening.

The summer concert will take place on Tuesday July 1 at 7pm and there will be a rehearsal on the day at 10am for former band members to attend.

“We need to fit everything together and those interested would need to attend the extra rehearsal, but it would be fantastic if as many of them as possible could take part,” said Miss Buckley.

“I do need to know in advance who will be attending and what instrument they will play and copies of the music will be available in advance for those who haven’t dusted off their instruments since leaving the school!” she added.

“I know that Mr Mitchell will be overjoyed to see ex-students taking part in this special farewell evening and they should contact me on for further information.

“Let us make this an evening to remember.”

Sherburn High Headteacher was recently announced to take over from Mr Mitchell, from September.

Deputy head Maria Williams was last week unveiled as the new headteacher of Sherburn and will take over the reins after the summer break.

Tadcaster Grammar’s Big Band will this Saturday perform in the Riley-Smith Hall in aid of the Chairman of Selby Distric Council’s chosen charities.

Tickets are available from Richard Sweeting on 07842 164034, John Cattanach on 01757 268968 or Tadcaster Grammar School on 01937 833466.
