Air Cadets from 2434 Church Fenton Squadron have been helping to sew poppies on to a length of fabric that will form part of the Selby Abbey WW1 Centenary Commemorations in November 2018.

Over 1000 poppies have been knitted so far by members of the Tadcrafters group in Tadcaster with many more needed over the next year to fill the 5metre length of fabric.

The founder of Tadcrafters CIC, Su Morgan, said “It is wonderful that so many different people of all generations have contributed to this beautiful work of art. It will be a very fitting memorial.”

One cadet described how proud she was to be involved in the project as her grandmother had knitted many of the poppies despite suffering from Parkinson’s Disease, and her mum had also been a cadet at the squadron.

Anyone who would like to get involved with the cadet group can visit www.2434.org.uk for more information.
