Stockeld Park in county’s White Rose Awards finals

Wetherby winter attraction Stockeld Park has been shortlisted for the White Rose Award.

The Christmas and Halloween Adventure, based at the historic estate off the A661, is in the running in the Tourism Event of the Year category at the glittering prize ceremony on October 1 at Elland Road’s Centenary Pavilion in Leeds.

Susie Grant, who owns Stockeld Park with her husband Peter, said: “Peter and I are delighted that we’ve been shortlisted for the Tourism Event of the Year award.

“This is the second year we’ve been shortlisted for a White Rose Award and it is a great testament to all the team at Stockeld Park and our commitment to improving year on year.

“Since we started the Halloween and Christmas Adventure we have continued to reinvest 100 per cent of our profits, in order to make the event better and more exciting for our visitors.

“We are currently re-developing the site for our October 2012 opening. There may even be a brand new grotto.”

Last year the attraction, which opened five years ago, saw 100,000 visitors through its gates.

Susie added: “Not only have we secured a vital role in the local and Yorkshire tourism industry, but our growing staff levels for the Halloween and Christmas Adventure now make us a significant employer in the local area.”

Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “Making it to the shortlist is a huge achievement in itself.”
