Runners of all abilities encouraged to enter race

The Spofforth Gala Trail Race – which has become a major event in the serious runners’ calendar – takes place on August 29.

Several prominent runners are expected to be competing this year, who will hopefully push each other to set a course record.

This year the race is sponsored by the Grammar School at Leeds.

It will start at about 1.30pm from the Castle Field, with the route taking in Sicklinghall and Kirkby Overblow, mainly on footpaths, bridleways and fields.

The fastest competitors will be aiming to finish near the 45 minute mark.

There will be prizes for the first three men, first three women, male and female veterans, a junior challenge prize and the first local, which includes the extended parish of Spofforth, Follifoot, Kirk Deighton and Little Ribston. All competitors will receive a commemorative medal and a goody bag. Despite the competition between the leading runners, it can still be a fun run so do not be put off from entering.
