A Tadcaster hairdresser has claimed the title of junior modern barber of the year despite stiff competition.
Alice Lindsay, who works at Aqua Creative in Boston Spa, entered the la biosthetique competition by styling four models and sending photographs as the first stage.
The 22-year-old was then chosen as one of three finalists asked to perform in front of a large audience in Birmingham
Alice, who won the award on Sunday (November 9), had 25 minutes to display her efforts as three nationally-recognised judges looked on.
She told the Wetherby News: “I thought I had no chance but I am really pleased to have won.
“I didn’t expect it at all. I didn’t even want to go at one point but told myself I had to man up and just do it.”
Judged on her technical ability, her stage presence, her vision, and her ability to create a haircut fitting the theme of ‘The Great Gatsby and the Roaring 1920’s’, Alice also won because of her hair and costume choices and an ability many did not expect.
Alice started at Aqua Creative two years ago and has worked hard to qualify as a graduate stylist with the team, only recently completing this course.
Sarah Somers of Aqua Creative said: “The entire Aqua Creative team is incredibly proud of Alice - the newly crowned and incredibly talented junior modern barber of the year.
“Her dedication, enthusiasm vision and abundance of talent has helped her achieve this wonderful accolade and much sought after award.”
