A Christmas market is to be held in Bolton Percy next month to raise funds for the village’s Grade I listed All Saints Church.
Earlier this year the renovation scheme was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of £181,100 to help fix the building’s leaking nave and tower roofs.
“But this grant only represents 65 per cent of the toal cost of the roofing project and the villagers still have to provide over £50,000 through their own endeavours,” explained spokesman Laura Swain.
“The Bolton Percy Christmas Market being just one of many fundraising events being planned for the coming months.”
It is hoped the renovation work necessary to replace both roofs will start in March 2017, however, this is seen as just the first stage in an ambitious longer term project to restore the church interior, windows and memorials and to refurbish the 17th century bells.
Bolton Percy Christmas Market will be held in All Saints’ Church on Saturday November 26 from 1-4pm, and the church will be decorated for Christmas to create a magical atmosphere.
There will be stalls showcasing locally-produced jewellery, crafts, cards, decorations, cakes and other gifts plus Santa will be making an appearance from 2-3pm.
This will be the fourth Christmas Market to be held in Bolton Percy.
