More than 25 villagers are on a waiting list for an allotment in Boston Spa, with the longest person being on the list since 2007, it was revealed at Boston Spa Parish Council meeting on Monday night.

Plans are currently underway to convert land into allotment space in the village, with the parish council in talks for around 10 half size plots to be developed at Westwood Way and Stables Lane playing Fields.

Resident Warren Meads, who attended the parish council meeting on Monday and has an allotment in the village, said he has noticed an increase in demand.

“Demand is going up everywhere. With the cost of food going up, people are wanting to grow their own, it is also an enjoyable thing to do and a good hobby to have,” he said.

Mr Meads added that a notice in a Boston Sp newsagents for allotment land - not owned by the council – had received more than 30 responses.

The parish council has a number of allotments on land at Primrose Hill, near to Westwood Way- all of which are fully let.
