Barwick’s green-fingered talents came under scruitiny from Yorkshire in Bloom judges this week.

Elizabeth Levett (York) and Roger Brownbridge (Harrogate) visited Barwick-in-Elmet to judge the village entry in the Large village category of Yorkshire in Bloom 2018.

The results will not be announced until the annual Award Ceremony held at York Racecourse on September 11 but villagers are hoping that all their efforts will again be successful.

Barwick in Bloom spokesman Geoff Yapp said: “It has been a very difficult year for all gardeners and we have struggled to maintain the standard which we have achieved in the past.

“Nonetheless we are hoping that we will make it a 12th successive year of Gold Awards.”

Judges at Yorkshire in Bloom last year praised the village for including local schoolchildren in helping plant up the community vegetable allotment and for the wild flower area.
