Yorkshire cricketer and Martin House ambassador Ryan Sidebottom has met new chief executive Martin Warhurst as he prepares for his testimonial year events this summer.
Ryan stopped in at Martin House Hospice Care for Children and Young People to say hello to the new boss before the start of a series of fundraising events taking place during this month and next.
Martin said: “It was a pleasure to meet Ryan and learn more about his role as ambassador at Martin House. I’m looking forward to meeting all of our ambassadors in the coming months – they play such an important role in representing us and supporting our work.”
Martin House is one of Ryan’s chosen charities for his testimonial year, along with the Ryan Sidebottom Cricket Foundation, which provides long-term coaching scholarships to underprivileged children.
Ryan has been an ambassador for Martin House for the last three years, attending numerous fundraising events. He is retiring after a 20-year record-breaking career as an England and Yorkshire swing bowler.
Ryan said: “Spending time at Martin House is always a joy, and it was great to meet Martin for the first time. I’m also delighted my testimonial year will help to continue the tremendous work it does for families.”
His testimonial events launch with a Mingle at Harrogate’s Everyman Cinema on Thursday 17 August at 7pm, where ITV Calendar presenter Duncan Wood will interview Ryan and rugby league player Stuart Fielden, along with a reception and free raffle draw.
A family cricket day takes place on Saturday 19 August from 1.30pm at Thorpe Arch and Boston Spa cricket ground, where the home team will take on Ryan’s Celebrity XI.
The centrepiece event is testimonial celebration gala black tie dinner at Centenary Pavilion, Leeds, on Thursday 31 August.
