A COMMUNITY radio station in Wetherby has been given a funding boost.
Wetherby councillors have provided Radio Tempo with £1,000 towards their innovative youth development programme, the Barleyfields Youth Project, which has proved a big hit in the area.
The station has been working with the city council’s youth services providing opportunities to young people in Barleyfields youth club every week since 2008.
Young people attend all community occasions around the area such as Christmas lights switch-on and the Wetherby police station open day. They can also gain experience and accredited training in radio recording, editing and production skills.
Councillor Gerald Wilkinson, North East Outer Area Committee Chair (Conservative, Wetherby) explained more.
“Radio Tempo does a fantastic job here in Wetherby. Their work with groups such as the youngsters from Barleyfields really does them credit, adding to the claim that they are a radio station at the heart of their community.”
