Racing ahead to finishing line

A Cundall Manor School pupil is speeding ahead with his bid to raise funds for a good cause.

Junior Touring Car driver, Matty Greenwood, aged 14, has set himself the goal of raising £450 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Matthew, who is currently the reigning European Prokart Endurance Champion for the Overall Clubman Class and six-hour series, recently raised £104 at Cundall Manor by selling popcorn and wristbands to pupils and parents and is now over half way.

Matthew said: “I’m so lucky to be on track to fulfil my dream to become a professional racing driver when so many other children can’t.

“It’s important to me that I help other teenagers in any way I can. My Sponsors Whitworth Chemists and I think the Teenage Cancer Trust is a fantastic charity and spending time raising funds for them is the least I can do.”

Matty, who dreams of winning at the Le Mans 24-hour race, added: “When I started karting at 11 years old I never thought two years later I would become a European Champion, but I was determined.

“It just shows what anybody can do if you have a dream and put your mind in gear. Now I’m equally determined to win my Junior Touring Car championship and raise as much money as I can for the Teenage Cancer Trust.”

The fundraising is all part of the Junior Saloon Car Championship’s bid to support the Teenage Cancer Trust as the organisation’s recognised charity of choice.
