Henshaws given £1k boost to learning

Henshaws offers support, advice and training in order to help those living with sight loss and other disabilities to build skills, develop confidence and prepare for a positive future, with the firm belief that everyone has the right to an independent and fulfilling life.

The charity has a Specialist College in Harrogate, close to the housebuilder’s Kingsley Meadows development, which takes a personalised approach to education for students aged between 16 and 25.

With the help of the donation from Barratt Developments Yorkshire East’s Community Fund, Henshaws will be able to further students’ experiences with the support going to its Forest School, giving young people the opportunity to benefit from hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment.

Following the college’s initial successful trial of a forest school concept, it has now been added to the wider college curriculum, with instructors now working towards a Level 3 ‘Certificate in Forest School Programme Leadership’ to become Forest School Leaders.

We hope that our Community Fund donation will help to enhance the vital work that the charity does and help it to build on the fantastic facilities it offers to local students.”
