Bettys launches new luxurious Lady Betty afternoon tea

No one quite does tradition like Bettys but the famous family-owned tea rooms and bakery have never been slow in coming up with new ideas and improvements.

Although it quickly became synonymous with afternoon tea almost soon as it first opened in 1919, it didn’t proceed to open up its luxurious Imperial Rooms upstairs in its Harrogate town centre establishment for sumptuous until far more recently.

But now it’s gone one step further by offering a new, reservations-only afternoon tea service.

Called Lady Betty Afternoon Tea, manager of the Imperial Room, Nicola Manning said the new experience would offer tradition with added elegance.

She said: “This will be afternoon tea at its absolute best. While there is always a sense of a special occasion at all of our cafes, the new Lady Betty Afternoon Teas will be an inimitable treat.”

Customers are to be served on a traditional silver cake stand with bespoke bone china, whose intricate tea leaf design influenced by a 1919 motif from the archives of Bettys’ bone china supplier, Royal Crown Derby.”

The new menu is inspired by Bettys best-loved patisserie and favourite tea room specialities with a selection of sandwiches, savouries and scones - plus a range of homemade miniature cakes.

The rare and fine teas have been selected by Bettys experts who have enjoyed a long-term relationship with tea estate round the globe which share the company’s ethical values.

And all this amid the elegant surroundings of the Imperial Room with its new Art Deco-designed chairs and cafe pianist.

Nicola Manning said: “Bettys has been at the heart of family celebrations for generations. We’ve gathered all we’ve learnt to offer customers something which will be really memorable.”

To top it all, on arrival at the Lady Betty Afternoon Teas, customers will be offered a glass of Champagne or a new Bettys Rhubarb Champagne Cocktail.
