IT was great to see new local rock groups such as Silvertone in action at Fringe Crawl Day on Saturday in Harrogate.
Five live venues putting on local music at the same time topped off with a few choice ‘out of town’ names - Julian Cope of Teardrop Explodes fame, indie band Sketches from Leeds, the energetic Tubelord who travelled all the way from Kingston Upon Thames.
With no budget and only a loose central organisation from me, this explosion of indie and acoustic and punk and rock music would not have happened without people doing it for themselves.
Bar owners and DIY promoters like Jay Smith, Colin Speirs, Simon Colgan, Matt Stephenson, DJ Trev, Mike Gowland of North Yorkshire Hardcore, Matt Anderson, Ben Harvey and Matt Cooper, not to forget Harrogate Theatre which kindly hosted a free stage I put on in the afternoon with acts such as Ryan Spendlove, James Tait and Samantha Smith.
The Blues Bar and Monteys, in particular, were completely ram-jammed by the evening.
Silvertone, meanwhile, were back in live action at the weekend at The Duchess in York.
The band, which evolved from the ashes of the popular Blaze Camero, includes James Weller, George Tyreman, Jack Meredith and Mike Turnbull.
Website altrockdelete.com gave them a great live review recently for their sound with its influences of the Foo Fighters and Biffy Clyro.
WITHOUT even much publicity, tickets for Mick Ralph’s forthcoming show at Frazer Theatre are flying out of the door.
