Wetherby is preparing for what promises to be its most exciting arts feast to date
Running from Friday, October 25 to Saturday, November 2, Wetherby Festival will star Pop Idol’s Gareth Gates who will appear playing at the Wetherby’s Engine Shed.
And the star of big West End musicals is not the only big name act. There will also be as the Travis Riley Band and comedian and singer Steve Womack.
Festival director, Anni Wood said: “The festival is a well-loved social event in the town.
“It has been going since 1977 and it has a lot of support in the area.
“We have tremendous support from people and we are all working hard on this year’s festival.
“We have tried to cater for all ages at this year’s festival, from tots, to young professionals to the older generation.”
There will also be a ‘Taster Weekend’ from October 18-20 when Wetherby Twinning Association will be hosting a Call my Wine Bluff event.
The festival, which takes place in a variety of locations over nine days, will see performances from Opera North, and tribute duo act Book Ends, who will do a Simon and Garfunkel duo.
Covering the modern music scene will be Ticket 415, as well as the Gareth Gates performance which will be held on Saturday, November 2.
The nine-day festival which was first held in 1977, will also welcome back North County Theatre, and a special performance from Leeds Symphony Orchestra.
Visitors can also take part in a ramble around Wetherby and the ever popular literary lunch will be back again this year.
Coffee will be provided for guests over four days for lunch at the festival, with free entertainment. Two fun days are also planned for children.
Tickets can be bought online at www.wetherbyfestival.co.uk and in person from the Box Office in The Garden of Rest on North Street daily from 10am until 2pm except Sunday.
A number of businesses will be sponsoring this year’s event, which include The Engine Shed, Five Point Consulting, Hart Law solicitors, Cameron Beaumont and Castlegate Stationers.
