IT’S now 70 years since Lupino Lane first brought the West End production of Me and My Girl to Harrogate’s Royal Hall.

Since Stephen Fry’s revision of the script in 1983, followed by an eight-year run in the West End and a successful Broadway production, there have been at least two amateur productions in Harrogate, but not recently.

The Deanery Players are picking up this successful baton in a new presentation at Harrogate Theatre.

Running from February 9-11, it is the players’ 53rd annual production and the cast is thoroughly enjoying the humour of Stephen Fry and the music of Noel Gay.

Stuart Hutchinson and Laura Venn are cast as two aristocrats, The Hon Gerald Bolingbroke and Lady Jacqueline Carstone.

They are engaged to be married but part when Lady Jacqueline attempts to capture the rich, new Lord Hareford - an EastEnd costermonger!

Although tempted by Lady Jacquie, Lord Hareford remains true to his roots and his cockney girl-friend, Sally.

The show promises to be full of laughs and great songs.
