ONE of the most under-rated music heroes of our time is to play Knaresborough next week courtesy of Kula promoters.
Appearing in the intimate Frazer Theatre next Friday, September 2, Michael Chapman is rated by friend and colleague Richard Thompson as one of his favourite guitarists, according to Mojo magazine.
Chapman, a self-styled “old white blues guy from Yorkshire”, was also a contemporary of John Martyn, Roy Harper and Wizz Jones, with whom he shares a musical lineage dating back to the late 1960s.
With more than 40 years of touring now under his belt, Michael is now something of an acoustic guitar legend, particularly with younger players such as Jim O’Rourke and Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) who are amazed by his unique blend of folk, roots and Americana styling.
l Tickets costing £14 are available in person from PEAR (Knaresborough) and Rock Steady Music shop (Harrogate) and online at www.kula-productions.com
