A Harrogate pub and a Starbeck brewery have teamed up to create a Tour de France-inspired pint.

Pedal Power beer is the work of a collaboration between The Coach & Horses and Daleside, and it’s pitched at a deliberately low ABV of 3.4% to allow drinkers to enjoy a pint or two without consuming too much alcohol.

Craig Witty, chief brewer at Daleside, said: “Pedal Power is made using the finest Galaxy hops, famous for their full-bodied flavour and distinctive citrus aromas.

“By putting flavour and quality ahead of basic alcoholic strength Pedal Power will still be popular with seasoned ale drinkers, while also having a broad appeal to anyone who might not normally consider a typically traditional British pint or two.

“Long after the yellow jerseys have been washed and forgotten, people will be drinking Pedal Power and remembering what a great year 2014 was for Harrogate, Yorkshire, cycling and beer.

John Nelson of the Coach & Horses said: “We’ve created an ale to capture people’s imagination and remind them about the excitement of the Tour, but not as a short-term gimmick - this is a proper beer.

“Harrogate is a beautiful place for tourists and locals alike, and it is only right that its role in the Tour is marked by a product as distinct and memorable as the town itself.”

Pedal Power is available in the Coach now and goes on general release later this summer.

It’s not the only news for the popular pub. It is also introducing a new wine list – keeping its standard offering but bringing in a few more premium (but still affordable) wines.

And there’s a change of shift in the kitchen, with the introduction of a new catering team.
