ST Mary's Primary School in Boston Spa is celebrating the results of its recent Ofsted inspection.
The inspection, which covered all aspects of the school including the quality of teaching and learning, the standards achieved and the children’s welfare, saw the school come through with flying colours.
The inspector found that pupils achieved
standards well above the national average in English, maths and science. He particularly highlighted the guidance and innovative support given to children by the staff.
In a separate letter to the children, the inspector noted their friendliness and good behaviour and that he was impressed with how well they worked.
He went on to say that the teaching staff work hard and teach in an interesting and exciting way. He also singled out the very good help given to children who have difficulty learning.
The school was congratulated by Coun Andrew Millard, who is responsible for education matters in the area and is a governor at the school.
He said: "I congratulate Jan Alexander and her team on this wonderful achievement. It is a privilege to be involved with such a dynamic, positive school and great news for pupils, parents and everyone involved.”
Jan Alexander, the recently appointed head teacher commented: “This is an exciting time for St Mary’s.
“The report highlights the many strengths of our school and illustrates the fantastic opportunities that are open to our children.
“Now we need to build on these strong foundations as we follow a path of excellence and enjoyment for all.”
Paul Heaton, chair of governors, paid tribute to the whole school community. “This report is the result of unstinting hard work by the staff team and pupils of our school,” he said.
“It is wonderful to have an independent inspection confirm the school’s many strengths. I’m looking forward to using this report as a springboard to an excellent future.
