TADCASTER East Community Primary School became the first school in the district to benefit from a TryScience Day led by international technology giant IBM last week.
IBM's On Demand Community Challenge team paid pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 a special visit to provide an exciting and fun day of learning about science and technology advances.
Excited children took part in water based experiments to determine lung capacity, simple computer programming of a cyber-robot, bridge construction involving pasta and marshmallows and even a paper aeroplane experiment.
IBM volunteer, who is also the school's Chair of Governors, Tony Morgan said: “TryScience is all about increasing children's awareness and interest in the areas of science and technology and having fun at the same time.
“The interest and feedback from the children at the event was fantastic.”
Headteacher Donna Bedford added: “We've held a huge range of activities for the children both inside and outside the school this year aimed at addressing all aspects of the curriculum and this was one of the best.
“A number of the pupils have written thank you letters asking for it to be repeated next year.”
The school wishes to thank all involved and is looking at how it can use TryScience and similar resources in the future.
