A FIRE in a disused paper mill last Sunday night is believed to have been started deliberately.
Two appliances from Tadcaster Fire Station were sent to the mill at Newton Kyme after a fire was reported at 10.30pm.
Firefighters, who arrived on the scene, found a disused electrical maintanence building on fire and asked for assistance.
A request was made to West Yorkshire Fire Service and crews were sent from Wetherby and Stanks.
North Yorkshire Fire Service then mobilised support from Acomb and York. A water bowser was sent from Tadcaster and an aerial ladder platform from York.
The firefighters used two ground monitors and the aerial ladder platform to direct water onto the fire and 84 lengths of hose were used.
The mill was built in the 1930s but closed down in 2003. North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Control confirmed the cause of the fire was being logged as deliberate.
