A NUN from Sicklinghall has raised £9,000 through taking part in a sponsored knit.
Sister Margaret Duncan, who is 92, knitted for 24 hours with a five-minute break each hour to raise the impressive sum.

The money will help look after disabled orphans in Bosnia, where Sister Margaret used to work.

She is now a resident of the Convent of the Holy Family Sisters, beside the Church of Mary Immaculate in Sicklinghall, where many retired nuns live.

Sister Margaret admitted her fundraising feat was a lonely exercise, particularly during the night hours.

She said she felt a feeling of relief when she came to the end of her 24 hour challenge.

Further donations are welcome to send to Bosnia through the convent.
