THE A1 at Wetherby will again be closed overnight in both directions this weekend to allow for installation of new bridge beams at Walton Road.
The A1 will be closed from 9pm tomorrow, Saturday, until 6am on Sunday between the Grange Moor and Walton Road junctions.
The road was closed last weekend for the same work, but due to poor weather conditions, only three of the four beam and deck sections were installed.
During the closure, there will be signed diversion routes in place:
l Northbound traffic will exit the A1 at the A659 Grange Moor junction to use the new local access road and the A58, before re-joining the A1 at Walton Road.
l Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction, exiting the A1 via a temporary link road at Walton Road and re-joining the A1 at Grange Moor.
The work is being done as part of the multi-million pound A1(M) upgrade project between Bramham and Wetherby.
The new bridge will replace the existing bridge, which is due to be demolished later this year.
Traffic will continue to use the existing bridge until the new bridge is complete, and once fully installed, the new bridge will cross the A1 at Walton Road.
Highways Agency project manager, Alec Briggs said: “As before, we will be carrying out this work overnight when traffic flows are lower to limit any delays to drivers, and there will be signed diversions in place.
“We do not anticipate any significant delays, however, we advise drivers to allow extra time for their journeys and, once again, we apologise for any inconvenience the closure may cause.”
