Ripon RUFC tasted defeat in their first Yorkshire Two match of the season as last week’s conquerors Roundhegians ruled supreme again.

But it’s not all doom and gloom at Mallorie Park as the club has been awarded the prestigious RFU Club Accreditation status.

The sports governing body confirmed the club has met four high quality conditions, duty of care, club management, safeguarding young people, and knowing its community, to secure the award.

Ripon will receive an RFU plaque and be able to use the logo on letterheads and the website.

On the pitch however, having been undone 16-12 by Roundhegians in the cup last week, Ripon were cast aside at Mallorie Park 20-0 on Saturday.

Ripon struggled to establish themselves early on as the home line out showed limited options and the away side dominating the scrum.

The even first half saw Ripon driving towards the visitors’ line, falling an inch short with one effort.

A contested refereeing decision then denied Mark Sadler a scoring opportunity.

The visitors were more clinical and in two excursions into the Ripon half, they scored two converted tries.

The second half didn’t see Ripon exploit any of the opportunities presented. They sent two penalty attempts wide.

Roundhegians continued to convert their pressure into points and scored two penalties.

Ripon face a tough trip to Bradford Salem on Saturday.
