Harrogate archers hit the target in Cheshire

Five members of Harrogate’s St George’s Archery Club travelled to the Wirral last weekend to take part in the Cheshire Archery Association Open Clout Championship.

This year the championship also incorporated the 1st English Archery Federation Championship.

Carol Fairbrother continued her unbeaten start to the season winning the English lady barebow title and the Cheshire lady barebow visitor championship.

She also took the trophy for the highest scoring lady visitor of any bowtype.

Hazel Ketley improved her personal best score by 35 points, claiming second place in the Cheshire lady barebow visitor championship, and was presented with a blue tassel award for the her overall score of 105.

Meanwhile, in the gents’ barebow competition Dennis Ketley improved his personal best score for the second week in succession.

He added a further six points on to the mark he set at St George’s own open shoot the week before.

Elsewhere, the St George’s junior archers shot particularly well.

In the U-14s barebow category Tom Ketley claimed first place in both the English Archery Federation Championship and the Cheshire Open Championship.

He was the highest scoring junior in the U-12s barebow competition.

Ben Daniel also won both the English Archery Federation Championship and the Cheshire Open Championship and improved his own Yorkshire records for the single and double 80 yard clout rounds.

The competition season continues this weekend when St George’s host the Northern Counties Clout Championships on their ground at St John Fisher School.
