The nation will be gripped by Grand National fever on Saturday.

It’s the day when people have their only bet of the year, so who will win this year’s race?

Teaforthree and Long Run are the favourites but of the leading fancies Tidal Bay makes most appeal.

Auroras Encore won the race for Yorkshire last year and I will be having a few quid on his stablemate, Mr Moonshine, this year. He ran well in the Bechers Chase over the unique fences in December and is a sound jumper who stays well. If Night In Milan sneaks into the race on bottom weight he will run well but I will be cheering on Mr Moonshine at 50/1 to complete a unique double for Bingley trainer Sue Smith.

At Aintree on Thursday and Friday , I make The New One the banker on the opening day.

Attaglance proved in 2012 that he could follow up a win at Cheltenham with success at Aintree and whilst he didn’t win this year he came mighty close. He looks a good bet in the novice chase.

On Friday I like the chance of Wishful Thinking in the Melling Chase and Philip Kirby’s Lady Buttons could run a big race in the concluding Mare’s bumper.
