A HARROGATE father of two stormed to victory in the Ilkley Triathlon on Sunday.
Bilton’s Jonty Bright, 35, finished first in the event.
He trains with event organisers Leeds Bradford Triathlon club and Harrogate Harriers, with whom he won the Knaresborough Bed Race back in June.
After a 500m pool swim, a 15k bike race and then a 5k run, Jonty clinched first place with a finishing time of 56.35. It turned out to be very close with Elite hopeful Euan Hockey finishing just two seconds slower.
“I was feeling very motivated for the race as I have been going well with my best results at Wetherby, Ripon and Helvellyn Triathlon,” said Jonty.
“Ilkley was the perfect race to finish the season on, 30 seconds before getting in the pool a friend of mine told me Mark Cavendish had just won the world road race champs and I thought ‘right I’m gonna smash this up!’
“You just have to push as hard as you can and hope for the best.”
Jonty is hoping to qualify for the World Age Group Championships in 2012 at Olympic distance triathlon and if he does go through, will race against other international age group triathlete’s in Auckland New Zealand next October.
The triathlete, who works at Stif Cycles in Summerbridge added: “I have a lot of training to do over the winter which will involve early morning swims and night rides on the mountain bike’
‘I’m looking forward to a couple of weeks of the training as I’ve been on it for the past 12 months, I may even have a beer or two.”
