TUESDAY night was a dismal one for local football supporters, with Harrogate Town and Harrogate Railway both beaten.

Town were away at Guiseley FC, in a Blue Square North game which took place at the third time of asking after repeated postponements due to the weather.

Midfielder Luke Dean travelled to Nethermoor, having signed on for a month at Wetherby Road, while boss Simon Weaver chose to start with striker Will Turl and leave Paul Brayson on the bench.

And it proved a shrewd decision as Turl opened the scoring with a goal in the 43rd minute.

Town carried their lead into half-time, but Guiseley struck swiftly into the second half with a 48th minute goal from Jason Price.

Guiseley put their visitors under huge pressure as the half progressed, and reaped the rewards when defender Simon Ainge found the net.

Town were unable to come back from that, and returned home without a point.

They host Workington on Saturday.

Meanwhile HARROGATE RAILWAY’s season went from bad to worse at home to Witton Albion, as they crashed 6-1 to the visitors.

Tom Jackson netted for Nigel Danby’s side but Witton were merciless, smashing six past their hosts.

Teetering above the relegation places, Railway host Woodley Sports in their next Evo-Stik First Division North encounter on Saturday.
