Stern test awaits Wetherby at high-flying Kellingley

WETHERBY Athletic face an acid test of their promotion credentials tomorrow when they travel to current Division One joint-leaders Kellingley Welfare (2pm ko).

However boss Eugene Lacy feels they have no reason to feel cautious and should emerge victorious providing they play to their full potential .

Athletic have been thwarted by the weather in recent weeks but now the snow has all but gone Lacy is primed and ready to go, and hopes his troops have a similar mindset.

Wetherby haven't played since their 5-0 thrashing of Hartshead on December 12, however tomorrow's opponents squeezed in a fixture last Saturday beating bottom club Howden Clough 7-0.

"That wasn't much of a test for them, they'll be in for a much sterner one on Saturday," said Lacy.

"We owe them one. We played them earlier in the season and they beat us but I don't know how. They were given two penalties on the day and we were given one and none were pens'- the ref' got them all wrong.

"We played all the football and ended up losing. I'm confident we'll win on Saturday, we've got the side, we've just got to perform.

"We'll have players coming back in like Craig Farrand , John Crawley and Rob Cromack so we're back up to full strength. The lads are ready for action.

"They've not played but they've been playing five-a-side and they're all young lads so they should be fit."

BARDSEY boss Martin Bradley is hoping his side can put the hype surrounding their trip to rivals Whitkirk to one side tomorrow as they look for a safe passage through to the next round of the County Cup.

The fourth round clash fell victim to the weather for the third time last Saturday and takes precedence over any league fixture that had been arranged.

Bradley is confident the game will go ahead tomorrow as the Keswick Lane outfit will try once again to get the fixture completed, in order to pursue their quest for a league/cup double-winning season.

"It will be good to get the game on," he said.

"There's been a lot of hype but we're focused. The lads have been training on a Friday night for the last three weeks, they've given up their time, they've been working all week so they could have gone to the pub so I can't complain at that.

"We want to get back to league action soon. Looking at the table we're in a really good position at the moment but we need to get going as soon as we can and make sure Beeston don't get too far away from us.

"We need to keep the pressure on Beeston and the teams around us - when we get back to league action that will be important."

SHERBURN WHITE ROSE meanwhile will hope to move through to the next round of the League Cup tomorrow when they travel to Ilkley Town.

In Division Two BOSTON SPARTANS have a tasty trip to Glasshoughton Welfare to get their teeth into tomorrow as they seek a return to competitive action.

Chris Conway's men are slowly but surely getting over the minor injury crisis that threatened to rock their campaign at the back end of 2009.

Boston are currently third bottom in the division but will be looking for some morale-boosting wins in the coming weeks.

After Glasshoughton they face another trip to Leeds Gryphons in eight days' time, a side hunting for promotion at the right end of the table.
