Lacy aims to measure Wetherby progress against the Wanderers

WETHERBY Athletic boss Eugene Lacy will be using tomorrow's League Cup test away at Premier Division side Whitkirk Wanderers as a yardstick of how far his men have come this season under his stewardship (1.30pm ko).

Athletic have one or two key injury worries before the mighty clash with centre half Rob Cromack, Rob McDougle and Craig Farrand all doubts.

Lacy is keen to give Whitkirk a real go and admits he knows one or two things about his higher league opponents.

“I know a lot about them, much more than I knew about East End Park,” he said.

“Whitkirk actually offered me the job to manage them a few weeks after I’d taken the Wetherby one. They’re one of the teams I do know a lot about.

“It’s a big game. We want to do well in the League Cup and the league this year and also it will show us how far we’ve come this season.

“It will be a good test for us. We do have one or two injury worries so we’ll have to see if they pull through.”

Wetherby’s proposed home clash against Brighouse Town last Saturday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

BOSTON SPARTANS are hunting a giantkilling of epic proportions tomorrow when they travel to Altofts in the League Cup.

Chris Conway’s men may have faltered in the league this season but in the cups they’re flying.

They’ll continue their run in the County Challenge Trophy in eight days’ time but first comes the big test against one of the Premier Division’s surprise packages this season.

“Looking at the paper they’re one of the in-form teams in the Premier League,” said Boston boss Chris Conway.

“We’ve got a load of injuries. It was a blessing in disguise not having a game last week because it meant we could rest one or two who had been struggling.

“But we’ve still got a lot of players out. It would have been hard enough going there with a full strength side let alone with a number of players out.

“But we’ll just have to go there and give it our best shot and hopefully pick up a result. It will be a hell of a result if we do it so we’ll see.”

Conway has ten players missing from his side tomorrow through injuries and unavailabilites.

“It just means I’ll have to dip into the second team and pull them into play which will be a baptism of fire for them but there’s not much else I can do,” he added.

“I don’t know too much about Altofts. It’s the first time I will have been there but I’m sure they’ll be a good side looking at the start they’ve made.

“It’s always going to be a difficult game against a Premier League side. They’ll be favourites no doubt we’ll just be hoping we can pick something up from it.”

Boston’s proposed clash against Great Preston on Saturday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

BARDSEY will be seeking an immediate comeback from their 2-1 defeat against SHERBURN WHITE ROSE in the Barkston Ash Challenge Cup when they travel to Aberford Albion in the Premier League tomorrow (2pm ko).

Nick Peacock’s Sherburn meanwhile are in League Cup action away at Ilkley Town.
