Karate club students win national squad spots

Harrogate and Boston Spa Shotokan Karate Club.s

Harrogate Shotokan and Boston Spa Shotokan Karate Clubs have made an impressive start to the 2013 season.

Twenty-nine members have gained a position on the Japan Karate Shotorenmei England National Elite Kumite Squad for the 2013 session.

All performed well in the gruelling selections, which took place at the Leeds Hombu Dojo.

This is an unprecedented number from one club and something the club say their members can be extremely proud of.

Selected for the Junior England Elite Squad were Adam Banks, Ronan Cain, Adam Daniel, Oliver Deane, Katelyn Entwistle, David Lister, Kate Lister, Laura Mackintosh, Sam Mitchell, Tom Mitchell, Emelye O’Brien, Connor Payne, Daniel Tremble and Nathan Wilson.

Selected for the Senior England Elite squad were James Brown, Stephen Brown, Joe Bulmer, Holly Dickinson, Jed Dickinson, Richard Fewkes (Veterans category), Mell Finlay, Josie Fishkin, Sam Goulden, Joe Hart, Daryn Hobden (Veterans Category), Callam Payne, Ashley Scott, Hayden Steele and Polly Swindail.

These karate-ka will now training with the JKS National Squad throughout 2013.

They will face a host of national and international championships to attend building up to the World Championships later this year in Japan.

The Harrogate club trains at Harrogate High School and the Boston Spa club trains at Boston Spa School.
