Collapse 'staggers' Scarcroft skipper

SCARCROFT captain Damien Aston had to look twice at his text while sunning himself in Spain last Saturday.

With the skipper on his jollies, his men back in England managed to capitulate against Barwick-in-Elmet folding like a pack of cards to 33 all out!

The staggering collapse has left Scarcroft with a mountain to climb in their quest to win the Division One crown. Tomorrow, with Aston back in the side, they’ll be looking to put bottom side East Keswick to the sword.

“When I got a text from one of the lads last week I thought it was a typo,” he said.

“Obviously I was a bit shocked but from what the lads were saying we were unlucky with a few of the wickets, a few of the lads played on, and they took two outstanding catches.

“But fair play to Barwick. We’ll just have to be a lot better this week. We’ve got East Keswick who have lost 11 out of 12. I’d be very disappointed if we don’t win that one but if we get bowled out for 33 again then we’ll get beat.

“We can’t take them lightly.”

It promises to be a hectic weekend for Aston’s men.

On Sunday they’ll be gearing themselves up for a tasty Fred Fleetwood Cup semi-final clash at home to Old Mods.

Aston knows the importance of the game for everyone associated with the club and thinks if they get through this they’ll be in with a good chance of winning it.

“We’ve developed a bit of a rivalry with Old Mods,” continued Aston.

“It should be a good game. It certainly means a lot. We know if we play well we can roll them. I think we’re in the harder part of the draw, if we get through this one we’ve got a great chance of winning it.”

Aston is hoping to pick from a full strength side for both matches.

In the other semi-final SHADWELL will be looking to get over their Addison Cup hangover on Monday night when they travel to Garforth PC in the other Fleetwood semi on Sunday.

Gavin Fletcher’s side were beaten by Bardsey in the Harrogate Evening League showcase at Knaresborough CC earlier in the week (see page 42 for more).

Tomorrow they’ll be looking to maintain their strong run of league form when they travel to Great Preston.

WETHERBY will be looking to maintain their high scoring run of form when they travel to Scarcroft conquerers Barwick tomorrow.

Elsewhere KIRK DEIGHTON will welcome SPOFFORTH in a tasty local derby and WALTON travel to Old Mods.
