Bardsey eye 'Bridge scalp

THEIR double dream may have ended but Bardsey's joint-boss Martin Bradley knows they can go a long way to moving closer to the West Yorkshire Premier League title if they overcome Boroughbridge away tomorrow (2.30pm ko).

The Keswick Laners bounced back from their defeat at the hands of Carlton in the quarter-finals of the cup with a storming 5-1 victory over Whitkirk in the league last week.

Bradley however knows they’ll be in for a serious test away at this year’s surprise package ‘Bridge. Daz Ekin’s men currently sit third in the division despite losing to defending champions Knaresborough Town last Saturday.

Bardsey will need to be aware of the wounded animal and Bradley is staying cautious ahead of kick-off.

“It’s going to be difficult going there,” he said.

“They’re a tough side to beat especially on their home pitch. They’ve got a lot of experience and from what I’ve seen of them they’ve got some decent youngsters too.

“It’s never easy against them but if we play anything like we did in the second half against Whitkirk I’ll be happy.

“We just need to keep it going now.”

Bradley knows after their cup exit the only piece of silverware they can clasp their hands on is the Premier League.

“That’s all we can do now,” added Bradley.

“But it’s down to the players now. There’s only so much me and Baz (Lee Baraclough) can do now. I was devastated when we lost against Carlton in the cup.

“But to be fair to Carlton they wanted it more. It was a really poor performance by us.”

On Saturday Whitkirk dominated the first half but the game stayed well poised at 1-1 despite the away side having the lion’s share of the possession.

However Bardsey mutated into a completely different beast in the second period smashing in four more goals to win 5-1.

Robert Dickinson (2), Matt Carey (2) and Jamie Thompson all found the net.

“We were terrible in the first half,” added Bradley.

“We were really lucky to go in at 1-1.

“Whitkirk dominated and they should have scored more. But we were magnificent in the second half.

“We scored four and I can’t complain about that.”

Bardsey will travel to North Yorkshire for tomorrow’s clash with a full strength squad at their disposal.

SHERBURN WHITE ROSE return to cup action tomorrow when they travel to Woodhouse Hill WMC in the League Cup (2pm ko).

In Division One WETHERBY ATHLETIC were thwarted in their attempts to get back to winning ways by the weather. Their home clash against Nostell Miners Welfare was postponed.

Tomorrow they’re due to host Oxenhope Recreation in the next round of the League Cup.

In Division Two BOSTON SPARTANS’ long running winless streak continued on Saturday when they were beaten 3-0 at home by Rothwell Town.

Chris Conway and his side have an immediate chance to get back to winning ways tomorrow when they welcome Great Preston to Stables Lane.
