Bardsey boss urges caution

By Andrew Groves

BARDSEY joint-boss Martin Bradley is telling his side to focus and not treat Otley Town lightly tomorrow when his charges make the trip to The Old Showground (2.30pm ko).

The vital Premier League clash comes just seven days after Bardsey’s exciting 2-2 draw at home to Leeds City.

Town are currently struggling near the lower reaches of the table after an inconsistent season in the West Yorkshire top flight. But Bradley isn’t reading too much into that before kick-off.

“I think Otley are a good team,” he said.

“They beat us twice last season. We’ve beaten them already this year but they’re not a bad side, it won’t be easy for us. Every game is tough now. We’ve got to treat every game like a cup final.”

On Saturday the scores were locked at 0-0 when Steve Mallorie was sent off for picking up to yellow cards in the second half. But Bradley’s side rallied and took the

lead soon after through Steve Wales.

City then hit them with a sucker punch by scoring two in three minutes but Bardsey stood tall and rescued a point through super sub’ Wes Freeman.

“I was really disappointed with the referee, Steve shouldn’t have been sent off,” said Bradley.

“Even their lads were saying that after the game. It’s frustrating because I’m going to lose him now for one game.”

WETHERBY ATHLETIC will be looking to slay giants Beeston tomorrow when the League Cup underdogs welcome their Premier League travel to The Ings tomorrow (2.30pm ko).

Eugene Lacy’s men have enjoyed a successful run in the competition

this season seeing off Whitkirk in an earlier tie and Oxenhope in the last round.

Tomorrow promises to be a

cracker and Athletic’s boss is licking his lips with anticipation before the big one.

“I’m looking forward to it,” he said.

“Simply to see how far we’ve come. We beat Whitkirk in an earlier round but to be fair they absolutely battered us but if the same happens again I won’t be complaining.

“There’s no reason why we can’t win it. No disrespect but I’d rather be playing Beeston than playing Leeds Gryphons who they beat in the last round.

“I know what they’re about so it’s not like we’re going in blind. We’ve got a chance, we’ve got one or two players coming back in for us. It’s going to be a good test.”

Wetherby come into the contest on the back of Saturday’s 2-0 league victory away at Horbury Town in Division One. Damian Mitchell and Jonathan Shillito scoring either side of half-time to seal the win.

“It was an important win but it wasn’t as comfortable as it should have been,” added Lacy.

“We missed a load of chances and they had a chance at 1-0 to us to level it from the penalty spot but they missed it.

“But I suppose the result is more important than the performance.”

SHERBURN WHITE ROSE picked up a superb 3-1 victory away at former leaders Beeston on Saturday. They’re without a game tomorrow but will return in eight days’ time away at Kippax in the semi-final of the Barkston Ash.

In Division Two BOSTON SPARTANS are still searching for their first league win of the year.

Tomorrow they’ll travel to bottom club South Milford just eight days’ after their 2-0 defeat away at Mount St. Mary's.
