Bardsey hope for third time luck at Whitkirk

BARDSEY joint-boss Martin Bradley is hoping it'll be third time lucky for his men tomorrow when they travel to Whitkirk for their proposed County Cup fourth round tie (1pm ko).

However Bradley knows with all the recent snow slowly thawing the game is already in doubt, with a decision due whether it can go-ahead again.

The Keswick Lane gaffer wants the game played in order to concentrate on the league as his side are currently four points behind leaders Beeston but hold three crucial games in hand over their rivals.

"I just hope we play it," said Bradley.

"It's not Whitkirk's fault it's been off. Everyone's having the same problems at the moment, if it would have been at Bardsey it would have been off too.

"The problem we'll have now is a fixture pile-up at the end of the season. That's something we've got to look at."

Bardsey may be lacking match practice but the squad will be fighting fit when they finally return to action with the squad still undergoing their weekly training sessions.

"The lads have been training on a Saturday in the snow," added Bradley.

"They've been putting extra work in and I can't complain at them for that."

SHERBURN WHITE ROSE are without a game tomorrow as Knaresborough are in County Cup action. Sherburn's clash against Rothwell last Saturday was postponed due to the snow.

In Division One WETHERBY ATHLETIC will be looking to return to winning ways tomorrow with a proposed home clash against East End Park.

However the game will be in doubt with snow still covering their Ings pitch (see above).

In Division Two BOSTON SPARTANS boss Chris Conway believes their extended break due to Christmas and the weather has been a blessing in disguise for his injury-ravaged squad.

Spartans were down to the bare bones in terms of numbers after a number of first teamers picked up niggling knocks and bruises, some more serious than others.

It left Conway and assistant Ted O'Donoghue dipping into the second team in order to make up the numbers.

But after their last defeat in the County Cup Boston have seen all their proposed fixtures postponed giving his injured players the chance to make a full recovery.

Boston are on the road tomorrow at Featherstone Colliery but Conway knows the game is in doubt with the snow starting to thaw and saturating the pitches.

He expects the game to bite the dust but is keeping his fingers crossed it goes ahead.

"We're hoping we can get the game in," he said.

"But with the snow melting the pitches can't take the extra water. Featherstone's pitch isn't the best anyway so I can't see if going ahead but you never know.

"We haven't played now since the County Cup game which has been a good thing for us. We were really struggling with injuries and it's given the players chance to put their feet up and get over the little niggles and knocks.

"We've been unbeaten since our last game!"

Boston maybe out of the cup competitions but there is still a lot of pride to play for as they attempt to climb up the Division Two table.

"We've got Featherstone and then I think Glasshoughton the week after," added Conway.

"There's some tough games coming up, we're just looking to get back as soon as we can. The rest will mean I'll have one or two players coming back.

"It was difficult before because we were picking people off the streets to play because of all the injuries, hopefully we'll be a much better state soon."
