Albion steeled for Parkgate opener

TADCASTER Albion boss Paul Marshall is hoping his side produce the goods tomorrow in their first competitive fixture of the 2010-11 season away at Parkgate (3pm ko).

The Brewers will begin life in the NCEL Premier Division full of confidence according to their manager, who thinks they should have enough in the tank to see off their opponents despite a number of his squad missing through injury or suspension.

Marshall himself will miss the first three games of the campaign and will pass on the reins to assistant Rob Hunter.

He knows Parkgate will be a tough nut to crack but has faith in his squad ahead of their opening day encounter.

“It’s a tough start (against Parkgate) they’re a well established team in that division,” he said.

“But I’m hopeful when I come back we will still be unbeaten. It’s not a bad start and I’ve got every confidence in Rob and the boys.

“It’s a shame we’ve got one or two out though. Marc Thompson is out for the first four games through suspension and Terry Taylor is suspended for the first three.

“Andy Sunley misses the first one through suspension too. Tosh Reid and his brother Aaron who I’m hoping to sign are away and Rob Ellis, who has come back to the club, is away for three weeks.

“That’s a lot of players to have away but we’ve got a big squad this season.

“We’ve worked hard to bring in a few lads in the pre season so we’ll be ready for it.”

Tad’ are back in action on Tuesday night when they welcome Barton Town Old Boys in the Presidents Cup first round before next Saturday’s trip to Northern League outfit West Allotment Celtic in the FA Cup.

“West Allotment won’t be easy,” added Marshall.

“Northern League sides are always big and physical. But we’ve got a good chance.”

Albion finished their pre season fixture schedule last Saturday with a 2-0 defeat away at Marske United.

Two days’ previous they came out on top in their local derby clash against Bardsey 5-2 thanks to goals from Carl Stewart; Louis Blackwell (2); Tom Woollard and Mike Braithwaite. All the goals were scored in the second half.

lDEFENDING champions BARDSEY will face a stern test of their mettle on the opening day of the West Yorkshire League Premier League next Saturday when they travel to new look Boroughbridge.

SHERBURN WHITE ROSE will be looking to get off to a flyer at Beeston.

Meanwhile in Division One WETHERBY ATHLETIC are on the road to Hartshead.
