Wetherby Athletic are searching for a new Under 21s manager after the sudden departure of young boss Liam Cope.

Cope left the club two days into the new year, announcing his departure on social media.

He said: “Brand new start required for me in football. I need to get back to enjoying the game.”

A club statement said: “Wetherby Athletic FC would like to thank Liam for all his efforts whilst at the club and wish him every success in the future.”

Athletic sit tenth in the West Riding U21s Floodlit League.

Cope took over from the joint leadership of Ben Lawrence and Martin Powell in the summer.

He joined Wetherby alongside his dad, David Cope, who resigned from his role in charge of the club's reserve team before Christmas.

Applicants for the U21s job should contact chairman Angus Taylor by emailing gusjames@aol.com.
