Wetherby Athletic made an impressive start to their pre-season calendar as Mark Forster’s side ran in five goals against West Yorkshire League rivals Whitkirk Wanderers.

Second half goals from Luke Dubery Dom Creamer, Josh Barden (2) sent Wetherby on the way to a 5-2 win, with Edmore Marau also on the scoresheet in an even first half.

New signing Declan Isaac earned the plaudits with the man of the match.

Forster took “lots of positives” as he prepares a team for an assault on the West Yorkshire League championship.

He said: “It was a good workout for the team, there were times we looked rusty, but there were some really good signs there.“
