Wetherby Athletic boss Des English insists his struggling side can profit from Saturday’s testing trip to high-flying Ripon City (kick-off 2pm).

English’s side have lost four games in a row, but the manager reckons this weekend’s clash could be just what they need to get back on track.

In contrast to Wetherby, Ripon are enjoying a six-match unbeaten run, and sit joint top of the WYA Premier Division.

English hopes his side will rise to the challenge, after putting in a solid performance, yet losing 2-0 at home to Kippax at the weekend.

He said: “I don’t think there is any need to panic at this point.

“We have got to keep believing. Ripon are a good footballing side, and we are under no illusions how difficult it will be, but maybe that is what we need to get going again.”

Wetherby beat City 2-1 at home in August.

The manager said: “They gave us a good game at our place, and we got the break of the ball, through a penalty and they had a man sent off.

“They are a young team, with great pace on the wings.

“Tactically we will have a look at it, it would be harsh to change too much from Saturday because I thought our performance was good.”

Looking back on Saturday’s match, the gaffer said: “I didn’t know what to say after the match, we are all very frustrated at the moment.

“I was really pleased with the performance, we have played worse this season and won.

“The football in the first half was terrific, we are creating chances, and on another day we would have won.”

He added: “We are looking to put it right, but I have few complaints, individuals are giving me a lot.

“We have to remember what we were doing when we were winning earlier this season.”

The club will check on the fitness of Dylan Parr for this weekend’s clash, but Josh Buckley will remain on the sidelines.

Jo Wilks should be available having impressed from the bench last week.
