Overjoyed Billy Miller saluted his depleted Harrogate Railway squad after they stopped Darlington 1883 scoring at home for the first time since December.

Railway held the Evo-Stik First Division North favourites to a goalless draw at Heritage Park on Saturday.

And after a run of four defeats, Miller said it could be vital to Railway’s season.

“It eases the pressure. If we had lost that game, you’re looking at five in a row with tough games to come,” he said.

Dan Thirkell (suspended), Rob Youhill and Jesus (both away) were missing.

Paul Beesley was also recalled to Harrogate Town on Friday and Miller handed a debut to 16-year-old substitute Luke McCrum.

“It was difficult but we got a team together,” he said.

“We rode our luck but then we stopped them playing through the middle.

“We combated their threats. It shows teams that want to play will let us play too. And we are good enough to.”

The draw left Railway 14th on eight points. Miller’s men host 18th-placed Mossley on Saturday (3pm) before heading to Clitheroe on Tuesday .

Miller added: “They are both in around us. We have to make sure we catch them on the back foot.”
