Harrogate Town’s play-off hopes took a massive blow on Sunday, as they lost 5-2 away at Gloucester City.

They remain eighth in Skrill North, but are six points outside the play-off zone, which sees Guiseley fifth with a game in hand.

After consecutive draws with Bradford Park Avenue, Colwyn Bay and Gainsborough Trnity, Town were looking to get back to the business of winning in this rare Sunday outing.

Town were without skipper Shane Killock, but Weaver opted to bring back Adam Bolder and Cleveland Taylor in midfield and start Michael Woods on the wing.

Meanwhile, Gloucester, who lost 4-2 at the CNG Stadium back in December, moved nine points clear of relegation into 16th which made this encounter just as important for their end of season hopes.

They completed their revenge in style, Joe Parker a constant thorn in Town’s side as he fired three past Craig MacGillivray.

Town held them to nil-nil right until the 45th minute, when Parker shot City into a 1-0 lead.,

But centre half Matt Heath levelled the match two minutes into the second half, before Ashley Worsfold made it 2-1 to Town just two minutes later.

Sadly, City were not to be denied, and Parker bagged his brace in the 54th.

Jake Gosling made it 3-2 ten minutes later and Parker completed his hat-trick in the 71st, before Charlie Griffin’s goal four minutes before time added the icing on the cake.

Harrogate Town are back in league action at home to Leamington Spa on Saturday, but must first navigat Wednesday night’s West Riding County Cup final against Ecclehill United at Valley Parade.
