Football round-up: Harrogate Town lose again but Railway and Albion earn draws

Harrogate Town slipped to a third Skrill North defeat in a row as visitors Brackley Town stole a 1-0 victory.

Summer signings Leigh Franks and Chris Hall missed the contest and midfield stars Adam Bolder and Michael Woods remained on the bench.

Town dominated the first period and striker Liam Hardy struck the crossbar.

Adam Nowakowski, Craig Nelthorpe Cleveland Taylor and Dave Merris also went close but Town failed to break the deadlock.

And their failure to hit the net cost them early in the second half when Brackley’s Charlie Griffin slotted home six yards out from a corner.

The visitors held firm for the remainder of the second period to avenge the 6-1 thrashing Town handed out last term.

The defeat put Simon Weaver’s men down to 10th as Brackley moved second.

Town kick-off their FA Cup exploits on Saturday when they travel to Colwyn Bay.

Harrogate Railway produced a sublime rearguard performance to grab a point at Evo-Stik Division One North favourites Darlington 1883.

Billy Miller’s side held firm to record a goalless draw in front of more than 1,000 supporters at Heritage Park.

Railway’s Simon Parkes tweeted: “Class performance from the boys today away at Darlington! Dug deep and held each other together! #UpTheRail #Class”.

Tadcaster Albion moved up to second in NCEL Premier as Carl Stewart’s penalty earned a 1-1 draw at home to new leaders Retford United.

Retford took the lead through Lee Holmes after 11 minutes before Stewart scored 10 minutes later.

Knaresborough Town exited the FA Vase as they lost 2-0 at Northern League side Marske United.

Wetherby Athletic thrashed Otley Town 4-2 to move up to 10th in the West Yorkshire Premier.

Leaders Bardsey were held 0-0 at home to rivals Beeston St Anthony’s.
