Ripon City have swooped to pick up goal machine Ben Jones from fierce rivals Boroughbridge.

Jones banged in more than 20 West Yorkshire Premier goals for ‘Bridge last season before his season was cruelly ended due to a shoulder injury.

The striker has found form again this season and has netted eight times since returning to fitness.

But he became unsettled at the Blues and approached rivals City to transfer across last week.

Jones attended City’s 1-0 defeat to Whitkirk Wanderers on Saturday and City boss Charlie Brown was keen to rush through his transfer to play him against Horbury Town this Saturday.

“His goals went a long way to keeping them up, if we had had him here last year we would have been very close to the top two,” said Brown.

“For one reason or another he’s wanting to come down.

“We are not the most prolific team, as Saturday proved.

“A goalscorer has to be a good addition for us.”

Brown hopes the new frontman can kick-start a striking partnership alongside in-form forward Duncan Terry and Tom Leeming.

Leeming will return from suspension for ninth-placed Horbury’s visit on Saturday.
