Wetherby Athletic Ladies returned to North East Regional Women’s League action witha 5-0 win over Rovers Foundation, to go six points clear at the top of the Southern Division.
After a shaky start and on a boggy pitch, a great ball across the box found Debra Slater who hammered home on 30 minutes.
Slater then made in 2-0 in the second half after taking on three Rovers defenders, before Grace Adams unleashed Emma Guilder to slam in a shot, which was parried but Slater followed up for her hat-trick.
Slater set up Guilder for the fourth before a fine run and finish from Charlotte Adams sewed up a superb victory.
Player of the match was shared between Slater and Janni Botten.
Coach Steven Carmody said: “It’s great to come back after a few weeks off and get a comprehensive result like that.
“It took us a while to get going, but once we did, the attitude and passing was fantastic.
“Everyone defended well – front to back – and closed down everything, not giving Rovers a chance to get back into the game.
“It was good to see Debra Slater bag another hat-trick, which I think is her third of the season so far, and share player of the match with Janni Botten, who had a great game in defence.
“We need to just ensure that we keep this work rate up and get the results to keep pressure on at the top.”
